Duke Overwhelms Indiana State in Dominant Home Victory

DURHAM, N.C. (Interstat) — In a commanding display of offensive firepower and defensive dominance, the Duke Blue Devils overwhelmed the visiting Indiana State Sycamores 100-62 in a non-conference men’s basketball game Friday night at a sold-out Cameron Indoor Stadium.

From the opening tip, which was won by Duke’s Patrick Ngongba, the Blue Devils established a pace and physicality that the Sycamores struggled to match. The game was effectively decided in the first half, as Duke built a commanding 51-32 lead by halftime and never looked back, maintaining their intensity to cruise to a 4-0 start to the season. Indiana State fell to 2-2.

The story of the game was written in the stark contrast of efficiency. Duke’s offense operated with surgical precision, scoring 100 points on 77 possessions for an offensive rating of 129.9. Indiana State, conversely, managed just 62 points on 78 possessions, an offensive rating of 79.4, as they were consistently disrupted by the Blue Devils’ length and activity.

Sophomore phenom Cameron Boozer was the engine for Duke, delivering a performance worthy of the Cameron stage. The 6-foot-9 forward from Miami, Florida, poured in a game-high 35 points, grabbed 12 rebounds, and dished out five assists in just 29 minutes of action. His presence was felt on both ends, adding three blocks and two steals to his stat line. Boozer’s ability to score in the paint, from beyond the arc, and at the free-throw line made him an uncontainable force.

Duke’s dominance was multifaceted. They outscored Indiana State 54-26 in the paint, showcasing their interior superiority. They also capitalized on Sycamores’ mistakes, turning 18 Indiana State turnovers into 26 points, while the Sycamores managed only 11 points off 12 Duke turnovers. The transition game was another area of Blue Devil control, as they outran Indiana State 27-9 in fastbreak points.

The Sycamores were led by Sterling Young from Queens, New York, who scored 14 points, and Ian Scott of Plainfield, Indiana, who added 13 points. Camp Wagner from Dallas, Texas, contributed 11 points, five rebounds, and four assists. However, Indiana State’s shooting woes were pervasive; the team shot just 36 percent from the floor and 30 percent from three-point range.

Beyond Boozer, Duke received balanced contributions across the roster. Caleb Foster of Harrisburg, North Carolina, scored 14 points, while Italian freshman Dame Sarr added 10. The Blue Devils’ defense was a collective effort, amassing 13 steals and a remarkable 13 blocks. Ngongba, a 6-foot-11 center from Manassas, Virginia, was a defensive anchor with four blocks and eight rebounds. Nikolas Khamenia of Los Angeles filled the box score with nine points, six rebounds, and five assists.

The game’s statistical profile illustrated Duke’s comprehensive control. They out-rebounded the Sycamores, particularly on the offensive glass with a 16-8 advantage, creating numerous second-chance opportunities. While both teams attempted a similar number of three-pointers, Duke’s overall field goal percentage of 53.5 percent dwarfed Indiana State’s 36 percent.

The victory extends Duke’s perfect start as they prepare for a high-profile showdown against Kansas next Tuesday in New York. Indiana State will look to regroup when they return home to face Louisiana Tech next Wednesday.
