IUPUI vs. Alabama State
AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. (Interstat) — In a high-octane offensive showcase, the Alabama State Hornets overpowered the IU Indy Jaguars 101-80 in a men’s NCAA Division I basketball game Friday afternoon at Clune Arena.
The Hornets seized control early with a dominant first-half performance, building a 59-45 lead by halftime and never looking back. The victory improved Alabama State’s season record to 3-3, while the Jaguars fell to 2-5.
Alabama State’s attack was fueled by a balanced and efficient scoring effort. R’Chaun King led all scorers with 21 points, consistently finishing at the rim and capitalizing from the free-throw line. He was complemented by the dynamic backcourt duo of Asjon Anderson and Micah Simpson. Anderson tallied 19 points and dished out seven assists, while Simpson orchestrated the offense with 17 points and a game-high nine assists, just shy of a double-double.
Jerquarius Stanback provided a formidable presence in the paint for the Hornets, contributing 10 points, six rebounds and three blocked shots. Tyler Byrd also reached double figures with 11 points off the bench.
For IU Indy, the effort was led by Finley Woodward, who delivered a versatile performance with eight points, seven rebounds and seven assists. Kameron Tinsley provided a scoring spark with 15 points, including three shots from beyond the arc, and added five assists.
The Jaguars started the game competitively, with Kyler D’Augustino hitting an early 3-pointer to give his team a brief lead. However, Alabama State quickly responded with a 13-2 run, capped by a 3-pointer from Anderson, to establish a lead they would not relinquish. The Hornets’ offense was relentless in the first half, shooting over 59 percent from the field and building a lead that stretched to as many as 17 points.
IU Indy attempted to mount a challenge in the second half, but each time they narrowed the gap, Alabama State had an answer. A key sequence saw the Hornets push their lead to 20 points midway through the half, effectively putting the game out of reach. The Jaguars were unable to string together enough defensive stops to seriously threaten the Hornets’ commanding advantage.
The game was part of a multi-team event at the Air Force Academy. IU Indy will remain in Colorado to face the host Air Force Falcons on Sunday. Alabama State’s next contest is also against SIU Edwardsville on Sunday, to be played at the same venue.
