Canisius at High Point
HIGH POINT, N.C. (Interstat) — The High Point Panthers delivered a dominant performance on both ends of the floor, overwhelming the Canisius Golden Griffins in a lopsided 93-50 men’s college basketball game Monday night at Qubein Arena.
From the opening tip, High Point established control, building a 46-17 lead by halftime and never looking back. The Panthers’ offensive efficiency was staggering, as they shot 58% from the field and 41% from 3-point range. Their defense was equally formidable, forcing 19 Canisius turnovers and converting them into numerous transition opportunities.
Rob Martin orchestrated the High Point offense with precision, dishing out eight assists to go with his team-high 17 points. His backcourt mate, Conrad Martinez, added 12 points, while Chase Johnston provided a spark off the bench with 15 points, all coming from beyond the arc. The Panthers’ ball movement was exceptional, resulting in 15 assists on 36 made field goals.
Cam’Ron Fletcher and Owen Aquino anchored the interior for High Point. Fletcher scored 12 points and Aquino pulled down seven rebounds to go with three assists.
Canisius struggled to find any offensive rhythm against the relentless Panthers defense. The Golden Griffins shot just 31% from the floor and committed nearly five times as many turnovers as assists. Christopher Kumu led Canisius with nine points, while Bryan Ndjonga added seven points and five rebounds.
The victory improves High Point’s record to 4-1 on the young season, while Canisius falls to 2-3. An announced crowd of 2,603 watched the Panthers secure their third home win of the year.
High Point returns to action Thursday to host Illinois-Chicago, while Canisius will look to rebound Friday when it hosts Maryland-Eastern Shore.
