Mexico City vs. Valley
Preview: Capitanes Look to Extend Winning Ways Against Struggling Suns
TEMPE, Ariz. (Interstat) — A surging Mexico City Capitanes squad will face a Valley Suns team mired in a lengthy slump when the G League teams meet Wednesday night at Mullett Arena.
The Capitanes (27-18) enter on a strong run, having won seven of their last nine games, including a 116-105 road victory over Sioux Falls on Saturday. Valley (13-35) has lost seven of its last eight contests, most recently a 131-115 defeat at San Diego on Saturday.
Mexico City’s success has been fueled by guard James Bouknight, who is averaging 21.1 points over his last eight games. He erupted for 38 points and five assists in the win over Sioux Falls. Forward Andersson Garcia added 14 points and 17 rebounds in that contest, providing a critical interior presence.
Despite their record, the Suns feature a dynamic performer in guard Jaden Shackelford. He is coming off a triple-double with 29 points, 10 rebounds and 11 assists against San Diego and has scored at least 25 points in seven consecutive games. His backcourt mate, Zhuric Phelps, is also averaging 22.3 points over his last three outings.
The teams played the first leg of a back-to-back on Tuesday, with results unavailable for this preview. Wednesday’s rematch offers Mexico City a chance to solidify its playoff positioning, while Valley seeks to disrupt its opponent’s rhythm and snap its skid.
According to Interstat’s game simulator, Mexico City is projected to win 122-100.
The Capitanes continue a road swing at Austin on Saturday. The Suns begin a three-game homestand.
