Oklahoma City vs. Memphis

SOUTHAVEN, Miss. (Interstat) — The Oklahoma City Blue used a dominant first half to secure a 125-115 victory over the Memphis Hustle in a G League matchup on Sunday at the DeSoto Civic Center, earning a split of a two-game series.

The Blue, who lost to the Hustle by seven points on Saturday, took control early and never trailed. Oklahoma City erupted for 37 points in the opening quarter and matched that output in the second, building a 74-60 halftime lead. The offensive surge proved insurmountable for Memphis despite a more competitive second half.

Memphis, which scored 35 points in the second quarter to stay within striking distance, could not consistently slow the Oklahoma City attack. The Hustle narrowed the gap at times in the third and fourth quarters but never seriously threatened the Blue’s lead.

The most critical phase of the game was the opening period, where Oklahoma City established its commanding advantage. The Blue began the game on a 15-4 run, fueled by efficient ball movement and defensive stops. Key plays included an 11-foot floating jumper by Nikola Topic and a driving dunk from Zhaire Smith. Memphis struggled with its shot early, missing eight of its first nine field goal attempts, which allowed Oklahoma City to build immediate momentum.

Even when the Hustle found a rhythm, as they did with a 10-2 run late in the first quarter to pull within 31-25, the Blue had an answer. Oklahoma City closed the quarter on a 6-0 spurt, capped by a Bryce Thompson driving layup, to re-establish a double-digit lead at 37-25. This early cushion provided Oklahoma City with the leverage to manage the game throughout the remaining three quarters, consistently responding to any Memphis push with timely scores.

The win improved both teams to identical 16-30 records on the season. The result was contrary to pregame projections, as a national statistical ELO system had given Memphis a 67.3% probability of winning.

Oklahoma City next hosts the Rio Grande Valley Vipers on Tuesday. Memphis travels to face Rio Grande Valley on Thursday.
