South Bay vs. Rip City

PORTLAND, Ore. (Interstat) — In a high-octane G League showdown that required overtime to decide, the Rip City Remix outlasted the South Bay Lakers 133-126 on Tuesday night at Chiles Center, avenging a loss from just two days prior.

The game, a critical late-season matchup between Western Conference contenders, lived up to its billing as an offensive spectacle from the opening tip. South Bay erupted for 44 points in the first quarter, fueled by a blistering shooting display. However, Rip City answered with 35 of its own, setting a relentless pace that would continue for four quarters and beyond.

The most important part of the game unfolded in the final minutes of regulation and into overtime. After trading leads throughout the second half, the teams were locked at 126-126 at the end of the fourth quarter, forcing an extra period. The overtime belonged entirely to the home team. Rip City’s defense stiffened, holding South Bay scoreless in the extra frame, while guard Caleb Love took over offensively. Love scored seven consecutive points for the Remix in overtime, including a decisive 26-foot 3-point step-back jumper that effectively sealed the victory.

The contest was a showcase for several individual performances. For the victorious Remix, Chris Youngblood provided consistent scoring and playmaking, while Javonte Cooke offered timely baskets. Alex Reese contributed key outside shooting and interior play. For South Bay, point guard R.J. Davis orchestrated the offense with a mix of scoring and distribution, and center Malik Williams stretched the floor with his shooting from the perimeter. Nick Smith also provided a significant scoring punch for the Lakers.

The win improved Rip City’s season record to 25 wins and 21 losses, solidifying its playoff positioning. South Bay, despite the loss, remains near the top of the conference with a record of 29 wins and 16 losses. The game was the second of a back-to-back set between the teams, with South Bay having won the first meeting 129-122 on Sunday.

The result defied the pregame statistical projections, which heavily favored the visiting Lakers. Instead, Rip City demonstrated resilience, overcoming an early offensive barrage from South Bay and executing flawlessly in the clutch to secure a pivotal victory.
