College Park vs. Motor City
WALKER, Mich. (Interstat) — The Motor City Cruise unleashed a historic offensive barrage in the first quarter and never looked back, cruising to a 149-118 victory over the College Park Skyhawks in a G League game Sunday at DeltaPlex Arena.
The game was effectively decided in the opening period, as the home team put on a stunning display of efficiency. Motor City erupted for 44 points in the first quarter, establishing a 19-point lead that the Skyhawks would never seriously threaten. The Cruise shot a blistering percentage from the field in the frame, capitalizing on a series of early College Park turnovers and missed shots to build an insurmountable advantage.
While the Skyhawks showed offensive fight, scoring 31 points in the second quarter and a game-high 37 in the third, they could not string together the defensive stops necessary to cut deeply into the deficit. Every College Park push was answered by the balanced and relentless Cruise attack.
Motor City’s offense was a model of distribution, with seven players scoring in double figures, led by the efforts of John Ukomadu and Jaden Akins. The Cruise shared the ball expertly, compiling a high number of assists that underscored their cohesive offensive performance. The team’s ball movement and shot-making contrasted sharply with College Park’s more sporadic execution.
For the Skyhawks, Derrin Boyd provided a scoring spark, but the team’s efforts were undermined by their initial defensive collapse and an inability to contain Motor City’s multifaceted scoring options. The Cruise dominated the paint and the perimeter, maintaining a double-digit lead throughout the final three quarters.
The victory leveled Motor City’s season record at 19 wins and 19 losses. The Cruise have now won two of their last three games. College Park, meanwhile, saw its struggles continue, falling to 10-27 on the season. The Skyhawks have lost five of their last six contests.
The game served as a quick turnaround rematch from just two nights prior, when College Park secured a 131-124 victory on the same floor. Motor City’s decisive response on Sunday showcased their offensive potential when operating at peak efficiency.
The most important part of the game was the opening quarter, where Motor City’s explosive 44-point outburst established complete control. That period set the tone for the entire contest, demoralizing the Skyhawks and allowing the Cruise to play with confidence and a substantial lead for the remaining 36 minutes. College Park was forced into a frantic, uphill battle from which they never recovered, as the early deficit proved too large to overcome against Motor City’s consistent offensive output.
