Capital City vs. Noblesville

NOBLESVILLE, Ind. (Interstat) — In a high-octane G League shootout that required an extra period, the Noblesville Boom edged the Capital City Go-Go 128-125 in overtime on Saturday night at Arena at Innovation Mile.

The game, a back-and-forth affair featuring 21 lead changes and 15 ties, was ultimately decided in the final seconds of regulation and the opening moments of the extra session. With the score tied at 125, Noblesville’s Jalen Slawson hit a 13-foot floating jumper with 1:36 remaining in overtime to put the Boom ahead for good. Capital City failed to score on its final two possessions, sealing the Boom’s victory.

The most critical sequence occurred in the final three seconds of the fourth quarter. With the game tied at 125, Capital City’s Keshon Gilbert was fouled on a 3-point attempt and calmly sank two free throws to give the Go-Go a two-point lead. Noblesville used its final timeout and advanced the ball. On the ensuing inbounds play, Capital City’s Leaky Black blocked Gabe McGlothan’s potential game-tying layup at the buzzer, but the deflection went out of bounds, granting the Boom a final fraction of a second. McGlothan’s second attempt was again blocked by Black as time expired, sending the game to overtime.

Noblesville built an early 74-52 halftime lead behind a 38-point second quarter, fueled by Slawson’s playmaking and efficient shooting. The Boom shot 54% from the field in the first half. Capital City mounted a massive comeback in the third quarter, outscoring Noblesville 36-24 behind a combined 24 points from Skal Labissiere and Damari Monsanto to cut the deficit to 10 points entering the final period.

The Go-Go completed their rally in the fourth, tying the game multiple times in the final minutes. Gilbert’s driving layup with 55 seconds left gave Capital City its first lead since the first quarter at 123-121. Noblesville’s Au’Diese Toney answered with a putback with 52 seconds remaining to tie it again, setting the stage for the dramatic finish.

Slawson led all players with a versatile performance, directing the Boom offense with 10 assists while adding 18 points. Gilbert paced the Go-Go with 28 points and 8 assists. Labissiere contributed 24 points and 12 rebounds for Capital City, while Toney added 22 points for Noblesville.

With the win, Noblesville improved to 19-18 on the season, while Capital City fell to 17-19. The two teams are scheduled for a rematch at the same venue on Sunday.

The Boom’s victory defied the pregame projections from Interstat’s ELO system, which had given Noblesville a 68.5% probability to win. The game lived up to its billing as an offensive showcase, with both teams combining for 253 points and shooting above 50% from the field for much of the night before cooling off in the extra period.
