South Bay vs. Capital City

Preview: South Bay Lakers at Capital City Go-Go

WASHINGTON (Interstat) — Two teams jockeying for position in the G League standings will meet Friday when the South Bay Lakers visit the Capital City Go-Go at CareFirst Arena.

The Lakers (16-14) and Go-Go (15-14) are separated by just a half-game in the win column, adding stakes to their second meeting in three days. On Wednesday, South Bay defeated Capital City 66-44 in a defensively dominant performance.

South Bay arrives after a high-scoring 137-133 road loss to the Osceola Magic on Monday, despite a 36-point, six-assist effort from guard Kobe Bufkin. Bufkin has been on a scoring tear, averaging 27.1 points over his last seven games, including two 37-point outings. His backcourt matchup will be a key focus.

Capital City counters with its own dynamic guard in Sharife Cooper, who is coming off a 37-point, nine-assist performance in a 110-98 win over Wisconsin on Jan. 31. Cooper’s playmaking and scoring bursts will be central to the Go-Go’s attempt to bounce back from Wednesday’s low-output loss.

The Lakers have won four of their last six games overall, showcasing a potent offense that has scored 120 or more points in five of those contests. The Go-Go have been inconsistent, alternating wins and losses in their last five outings.

Friday’s contest will be the final game of a brief two-game homestand for Capital City before they host Birmingham on Saturday. South Bay continues a four-game road trip that next sees them in Texas on Feb. 20.

Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. EST at CareFirst Arena.
