Birmingham vs. Noblesville

NOBLESVILLE, Ind. (Interstat) — The Noblesville Boom used a dominant first half and a career performance from Ethan Thompson to overpower the Birmingham Squadron 125-109 in a G League contest Sunday at the Arena at Innovation Mile.

Thompson, a 6-foot-5 small forward, led all scorers with a game-high 36 points, spearheading an offensive onslaught that saw the Boom build a commanding 63-36 halftime lead. The Boom shot efficiently from the opening tip, scoring 31 points in the first quarter and 32 in the second while holding Birmingham to just 20 and 16 points in the same periods.

The most important part of the game was Noblesville’s immediate and sustained offensive execution, which effectively decided the contest by halftime. The Boom never trailed, opening the game on a 17-4 run fueled by Thompson and center Samson Johnson. Birmingham struggled with turnovers and missed shots early, digging a hole from which they could not recover despite a spirited second-half effort.

Birmingham’s offense awoke after the break, scoring 36 points in the third quarter and 37 in the fourth. Trey Alexander led the Squadron with 28 points, while Keion Brooks added 24 and Christian Shumate contributed 22. A 10-0 Squadron run in the third quarter, capped by a Chase Hunter 3-pointer, briefly cut the deficit to 12 points, but Noblesville consistently answered every Birmingham push.

Thompson ended Birmingham’s last significant threat early in the fourth quarter. After the Squadron closed to within 101-91, Thompson hit a 24-foot 3-pointer and then, following a Birmingham basket, assisted on a DaJuan Gordon 3-pointer to stretch the lead back to 16 points with under six minutes to play. Thompson also tallied 8 assists and 4 steals.

Johnson finished with 14 points and 8 rebounds for the Boom, while Taelon Peter added 17 points. Kam Jones distributed 9 assists for Noblesville.

The win improved Noblesville’s record to 15-15, moving them to .500 on the season. Birmingham fell to 10-24 with the loss, their second defeat to the Boom in three days following a 124-111 loss on Friday.

Noblesville next travels to face the Osceola Magic on Wednesday. Birmingham continues its road trip at Capital City on Saturday.
