Memphis vs. Cleveland
CLEVELAND (Interstat) — The Cleveland Charge used a dominant second quarter and a relentless offensive performance to pull away from the Memphis Hustle for a 131-117 victory in the NBA G League on Friday night at Wolstein Center.
The game was closely contested early, with both teams trading baskets to finish the first quarter tied at 36. The turning point came in the second period, where the Charge outscored the Hustle 36-29 to establish a lead they would not relinquish. Cleveland maintained its offensive pressure throughout, scoring 30 points in the third and 29 in the fourth to secure the win and improve its season record to 17-10.
Memphis, which fell to 9-19, kept pace for much of the first half but could not contain Cleveland’s efficient scoring runs. The Hustle’s offense, which produced 36, 29, 32 and 20 points by quarter, was consistently answered by the Charge.
The most important sequence of the game occurred late in the second quarter as Cleveland built its decisive cushion. After Memphis closed to within four points, the Charge engineered a 12-4 run over the final 2:45 of the half. The run was capped by a Luke Travers 3-pointer with two seconds remaining, giving Cleveland a 72-65 halftime lead and significant momentum. That burst typified the night, as Memphis could never mount a sustained comeback against Cleveland’s balanced attack.
Cleveland’s ball movement was a key factor, with the team recording 33 assists. The offensive execution allowed the Charge to shoot efficiently from the field and from 3-point range, consistently finding open looks against the Memphis defense.
The result aligned with pregame projections, as statistical models heavily favored the Charge at home. Cleveland also avenged a previous loss to Memphis earlier in the season, having now split the two-game season series.
Memphis will continue its road trip with a back-to-back set against the Motor City Cruise starting Sunday. Cleveland will host the Motor City Cruise on Saturday before embarking on a two-game road trip at College Park.
