Birmingham vs. Noblesville
Preview: Birmingham Squadron at Noblesville Boom
NOBLESVILLE, Ind. (Interstat) — The Noblesville Boom will look to continue their recent surge and solidify a winning record when they host the struggling Birmingham Squadron in a G League matchup Friday at the Arena at Innovation Mile.
The Boom (13-15) have won four of their last five games, including a 117-115 overtime victory at Wisconsin on Saturday. Forward Cody Martin has been instrumental, averaging 21.0 points, 6.3 rebounds and 5.0 assists over his last three contests. He scored a season-high 28 points in the win over the Herd.
Noblesville’s offense has found a rhythm, topping 125 points in three of its last five outings. Gabe McGlothan (25 points, 9 rebounds) and Jalen Slawson (18 points, 6 rebounds, 9 assists) provided key support in the overtime win.
They face a Squadron team (9-22) mired in a seven-game losing skid. Birmingham’s most recent defeat was a 120-105 home loss to Cleveland on Jan. 24. Despite the team’s struggles, guard Trey Alexander has been a consistent bright spot. He is averaging 21.5 points and 7.8 assists over his last four games, recording a triple-double (18 points, 10 rebounds, 10 assists) against Greensboro on Jan. 19.
Alexander scored 25 points in the loss to the Charge, with backcourt mate D.J. Carton adding 20 points and 5 assists. The Squadron have allowed an average of 118.1 points during their losing streak.
Friday’s game is the first of a quick home-and-home set between the teams, who will meet again in Noblesville on Sunday. The Boom will aim to exploit Birmingham’s defensive woes, while the Squadron seek to halt their slide behind Alexander’s dynamic play.
Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST.
