College Park vs. South Bay
EL SEGUNDO, Calif. (Interstat) — The South Bay Lakers used a dominant second-quarter surge to overcome an early offensive explosion from the College Park Skyhawks and secure a 121-107 victory in a G League contest Tuesday night at the UCLA Health Training Center.
The game pivoted decisively in the second period. After a blistering first quarter that saw College Park take a 35-24 lead behind the hot hand of point guard RayJ Dennis, the Lakers flipped the script with a 36-point second quarter. South Bay’s defense stiffened, holding the Skyhawks to 33 points in the frame while their own offense found a relentless rhythm. The turnaround gave the Lakers a 60-68 halftime advantage, a lead they would not relinquish.
South Bay center Kylor Kelley was a central figure in the game’s turning point, providing a major defensive presence with multiple blocked shots that stifled College Park’s interior scoring and ignited fast breaks. His work around the rim helped limit the Skyhawks to just 15 points in the third quarter, allowing the Lakers to extend their lead to 87-75 entering the final period.
College Park, which fell to 8-20 with the loss, made several attempts to rally in the fourth quarter but could not consistently string together stops against a balanced South Bay attack. The Lakers, who improved to 14-13, closed the game on a strong note, outscoring the Skyhawks 34-24 in the final frame to seal the victory.
Dennis led the Skyhawks with a dynamic all-around performance, facilitating the offense early and scoring at key moments. Forward Asa Newell provided scoring support, particularly from the perimeter. For South Bay, the win was a collective effort with significant contributions from Kelley’s defense and the backcourt play of R.J. Davis and Augustas Marciulionis, who orchestrated the offense and hit timely shots.
The Skyhawks’ early offensive efficiency, which saw them shoot over 50% from the field in the first quarter, ultimately faded against South Bay’s sustained defensive pressure and efficient scoring. The Lakers capitalized on College Park turnovers and controlled the paint, outrebounding their opponents and converting second-chance opportunities.
College Park next travels to face the San Diego Clippers on Friday, while South Bay hosts the Salt Lake City Stars on Thursday.
