Motor City vs. Delaware

WILMINGTON, Del. (Interstat) — The Motor City Cruise used a dominant third-quarter surge to pull away from the Delaware Blue Coats and secure a 133-119 victory in a G League matchup Saturday night at 76ers Fieldhouse.

The Cruise, who led 63-52 at halftime, broke the game open by outscoring the Blue Coats 38-26 in the third period. That decisive stretch turned a competitive contest into a comfortable lead that Delaware could not overcome, despite a 41-point fourth-quarter rally that made the final score more respectable.

Motor City established control early, leading 34-27 after the first quarter behind an efficient start. The Cruise maintained their advantage throughout the second quarter, taking an 11-point lead into the break.

The most important part of the game arrived immediately after halftime. The Cruise opened the third quarter with a sustained offensive blitz, consistently finding easy baskets in the paint and capitalizing on Delaware’s defensive lapses. This run effectively put the game out of reach, as the Blue Coats struggled to generate consistent stops. Motor City’s lead ballooned, allowing them to withstand Delaware’s late-game scoring flurry, which was fueled in part by the Cruise emptying their bench with the outcome already decided.

With the win, Motor City improved its season record to 13-15 across all competitions. Delaware fell to 10-18.

The Cruise showcased a balanced offensive attack. Key performances included Wendell Moore, the 6-foot-5 shooting guard, who provided steady scoring and playmaking. Center Tolu Smith, at 6-foot-11, anchored the interior for Motor City, while 6-foot-9 power forward Isaac Jones contributed with scoring and defensive presence. Point guard Jaden Akins of Farmington, Michigan, facilitated the offense, and 6-foot-9 small forward Drew Peterson added versatility.

For the Blue Coats, point guard Kennedy Chandler of Bel Aire, Kansas, led the backcourt effort. Forwards Ibrahim Cisse and Johni Broome worked inside, and small forwards Cam Young and Saint Thomas of Omaha, Nebraska, provided scoring, particularly during the team’s late push.

The game’s projected outcome, according to Interstat’s ELO system, had favored Delaware with a 55% probability to win, making Motor City’s wire-to-wire performance a mild upset.

Motor City travels to face Long Island on Monday, Jan. 26. Delaware’s next game is on the road against Valley on Friday, Jan. 30.
