Oklahoma City vs. San Diego
SAN DIEGO (Interstat) — The Oklahoma City Blue snapped a four-game losing streak with a 113-109 victory over the San Diego Clippers in a G League contest Friday night at Frontwave Arena.
The Blue, who improved to 7-20, built a substantial lead with a dominant second quarter and then withstood a furious fourth-quarter rally by the Clippers to secure the win. San Diego fell to 14-14.
Oklahoma City took control of the game in the second period, outscoring San Diego 33-20. That surge turned a narrow 29-28 deficit after the first quarter into a 61-49 halftime advantage. The Blue’s offense was efficient throughout the half, scoring 28 points in the first quarter and 33 in the second.
San Diego chipped away in the third quarter, narrowing the gap, but Oklahoma City maintained a 83-76 lead entering the final period. The Clippers’ offense ignited in the fourth, pouring in 33 points, but the Blue answered with 30 of their own to close out the game. The Clippers’ comeback attempt fell short despite outscoring Oklahoma City in both the second half and the fourth quarter.
Bryce Thompson, a small forward from Tulsa, Oklahoma, led the Oklahoma City effort. His consistent scoring was crucial, including a key 26-foot 3-pointer in the fourth quarter that helped stem San Diego’s momentum. Buddy Boeheim also provided significant offensive firepower for the Blue, connecting on multiple 3-pointers.
For San Diego, center Yanic Konan Niederhauser of Fräschels, Switzerland, was a force inside, finishing several dunks and layups while anchoring the defense with multiple rebounds and blocks. Guard John Poulakidas of Naperville, Illinois, hit critical three-pointers during the Clippers’ late push, and point guard TyTy Washington of Chandler, Arizona, facilitated the offense with several assists.
The game’s most pivotal sequence came midway through the fourth quarter as San Diego mounted its final charge. After a Patrick Baldwin layup cut Oklahoma City’s lead to 88-86 with just over seven minutes remaining, the Blue responded with a timeout. Following the stoppage, Bryce Thompson hit a deep 3-pointer off an assist from Zhaire Smith to push the lead back to five points. San Diego would get no closer than four points the rest of the way, as Oklahoma City made enough free throws and got key defensive stops to seal the road victory.
The win was a reversal of fortune for Oklahoma City, which entered the game having lost 10 of its last 11. San Diego had been more consistent recently, splitting its last 10 games. The two teams are scheduled for a rematch at the same venue Saturday night.
According to Interstat’s ELO system, San Diego had been projected with an 83.10 percent probability to win.
