Westchester vs. Wisconsin
(Interstat) — A decisive third-quarter surge propelled the Wisconsin Herd to a 114-103 victory over the Westchester Knicks in a G League matchup Monday night at Oshkosh Arena. The win improved Wisconsin’s record to 10-17, while Westchester fell to 5-21.
The game was closely contested through the first half, with Westchester holding a narrow 58-53 lead at halftime behind balanced scoring. The Knicks maintained their offensive rhythm early in the third quarter, but the momentum shifted dramatically midway through the period.
With Westchester leading 71-68, the Herd unleashed a game-defining 17-0 run over a three-minute span. The burst was fueled by stifling defense and efficient transition offense. Stevie Thompson ignited the run with a driving layup, followed immediately by a 24-foot running jumper. Mark Sears then drilled a 26-foot three-pointer, forcing a Westchester timeout. The Herd defense continued to create opportunities, as a steal by Cormac Ryan led to another Thompson running jumper, and a steal by Kobe Stewart resulted in a Thompson three-pointer off a Stewart assist, capping the run and giving Wisconsin an 85-71 lead with 4:31 remaining in the quarter.
Westchester never recovered from that stretch. The Knicks managed to cut the deficit to 88-82 by the end of the third, but Wisconsin consistently answered every push in the final frame. The Herd lead ballooned to as many as 13 points in the fourth quarter, and Westchester could not draw closer than seven points in the final minutes.
Cormac Ryan led a balanced Wisconsin attack with a strong all-around performance, contributing key baskets, defensive plays and rebounds during the pivotal run. Stevie Thompson provided critical scoring bursts, while Mark Sears orchestrated the offense and Jeremiah Tilmon anchored the interior. For Westchester, Bryson Warren and Dink Pate shouldered much of the offensive load, but the team’s defensive breakdowns during the third-quarter run proved insurmountable.
The victory allowed Wisconsin to split a brief two-game homestand with Westchester after falling to the Knicks 104-94 just two days prior on Saturday. The game followed the statistical pregame projection, as Interstat’s ELO system had given Wisconsin a 72 percent probability to win.
Both teams continue their schedules later this week. Wisconsin hosts the Noblesville franchise on Thursday and Saturday, while Westchester returns home to face Windy City on Friday and Osceola on Saturday.
