Capital City vs. Texas
FRISCO, Texas (Interstat) — The Capital City Go-Go used a dominant first quarter to build a substantial early lead and then held off a persistent comeback attempt by the Texas Legends to secure a 113-102 victory in a G League matchup Monday afternoon at Dr Pepper Arena.
The game’s decisive stretch came from the opening tip. Capital City, the visiting team, erupted for 36 points in the first quarter while holding Texas to just 22, establishing a 14-point lead that the Legends spent the rest of the evening trying to overcome. The Go-Go’s early offensive surge was fueled by efficient ball movement and an immediate inside presence, setting a tone that Texas could never fully counter.
Texas, to its credit, responded forcefully in the middle periods. The Legends outscored Capital City 33-27 in the second quarter and 33-30 in the third, repeatedly chipping away at the deficit. A key sequence late in the third quarter saw Texas’ D’Moi Hodge connect on a 25-foot running jumper to cap a personal 5-0 run, pulling the Legends within a single possession at 77-74. The period ended dramatically when Texas’ Jordan Hall banked in a 49-foot 3-pointer at the buzzer, cutting the Go-Go’s lead to 88-85 and swinging significant momentum to the home team.
However, Capital City’s defense stiffened in the final frame. The Go-Go limited Texas to just 14 points in the fourth quarter, their lowest output of the game. Critical defensive stops, including blocked shots and forced turnovers in the closing minutes, prevented the Legends from ever taking the lead. After Texas closed to 100-98 with just over four minutes remaining, Capital City closed the game on a 13-2 run to seal the win. Key plays in that stretch included a driving floater from Nolan Hickman and a series of free throws from Skal Labissiere following a technical foul.
The win improved Capital City’s season record to 13 wins and 12 losses, moving them above .500. The loss dropped Texas to 12-14. The game’s outcome defied the pregame statistical projection, which gave Texas a 54.4 percent probability of winning.
Both teams continue their schedules later this week. Capital City travels to face the Austin Spurs for a two-game series on Thursday and Friday. Texas will remain at home to host the Valley Suns on Friday before embarking on a two-game road trip to Rip City.
