San Diego vs. Mexico City

MEXICO CITY (Interstat) — The San Diego Clippers delivered a commanding road performance, defeating the Mexico City Capitanes 115-96 in a G League contest Sunday at Estadio Azteca.

The Clippers seized control early with a blistering first-quarter offensive display, scoring 36 points to build a 12-point lead. They never trailed, methodically extending their advantage throughout the game to snap a two-game losing skid. San Diego improved to 14-12, while Mexico City fell to 15-11.

The most critical phase of the game occurred in the opening period, where San Diego established a tone of dominance that Mexico City could never overcome. The Clippers’ offense operated with precision from the outset, while the Capitanes struggled with turnovers and missed opportunities. San Diego forward Zach Freemantle was instrumental in the early surge, scoring nine quick points, including a three-pointer and a converted and-one play, to help build a double-digit lead less than halfway through the quarter.

Mexico City’s attempts to respond were consistently thwarted. After a three-pointer from James Bouknight cut the deficit to 11-8, the Clippers answered with a 14-3 run. The stretch was capped by a Jahmyl Telfort three-pointer, assisted by Freemantle, forcing a Mexico City timeout with the score 25-11. The Capitanes committed five turnovers in the quarter, which San Diego converted into easy scoring chances. The Clippers’ backcourt of Jaelen House and Matt Allocco closed the period with consecutive three-pointers, including a Hunter Sallis triple at the buzzer, to secure a 36-24 lead.

That early cushion proved insurmountable. Every Mexico City push in the second quarter was met with a San Diego answer, primarily from Freemantle and House, who kept the lead in double figures. The Clippers’ lead ballooned to 19 points in the third quarter and reached as many as 23 in the fourth, as the Capitanes never mounted a sustained threat.

San Diego’s offensive execution was balanced and efficient, with five players scoring in double figures. The Clippers also dominated the rebounding battle, creating numerous second-chance opportunities that stifled any potential comeback momentum for the home team.

The victory was a significant result against the statistical odds, as Mexico City had entered the game with an 82 percent probability to win according to Interstat’s ELO system. The teams will meet again in a rematch Tuesday in Mexico City.
