San Diego vs. Mexico City
Preview: San Diego Clippers at Mexico City Capitanes
MEXICO CITY (Interstat) — A surging Mexico City Capitanes squad will host the struggling San Diego Clippers in a G League matchup Sunday at Estadio Azteca.
The Capitanes (15-10) enter on a seven-game winning streak, their latest a dominant 139-102 victory over Rio Grande Valley on Wednesday. Forward Andersson Garcia has been a force during the run, averaging 12.6 points and 9.9 rebounds over his last 10 games. He is coming off a 20-point, 18-rebound performance.
Conversely, the Clippers (13-12) have lost three of their last four, including a 131-104 home defeat to Windy City on Thursday. Center Derek Ogbeide, a player to watch for San Diego, posted 13 points and eight rebounds in that loss and is averaging 11.1 points and 6.6 rebounds over his last 10 contests.
Mexico City’s offense has been prolific during its streak, scoring 122 or more points in six of the seven wins. Alongside Garcia, James Bouknight (25 points, nine rebounds Wednesday) and Boo Buie (24 points, seven rebounds) provide consistent scoring punch.
San Diego will look to Ogbeide and guards Hunter Sallis (22 points vs. Windy City) and Jahmyl Telfort (15 points, six rebounds) to stabilize a team that has allowed an average of 122.5 points in its last four games.
This game is the first of a quick two-game set between the teams, who will meet again at the same venue Tuesday. The Clippers then return home for a four-game stand, while the Capitanes embark on a three-game road trip after the back-to-back.
Sunday’s contest tips off at 5 p.m. local time in the Mexican capital.
