Westchester vs. Wisconsin
OSHKOSH, Wis. (Interstat) — The Westchester Knicks, owners of the league’s worst record, delivered a stunning and resilient performance on the road Saturday night, defeating the Wisconsin Herd 104-94 in a G League contest at Oshkosh Arena.
The victory, just Westchester’s fifth in 25 games this season, defied statistical expectations as national projections gave the Herd a nearly 80 percent chance to win. It also snapped a three-game losing skid for the Knicks and handed Wisconsin a second loss in three nights.
The most critical phase of the game was a decisive third-quarter run that allowed Westchester to seize control for good. After a tightly contested first half that saw the Knicks lead 50-42, Wisconsin opened the third quarter with increased energy, cutting the deficit to just two points on several occasions. The Herd’s Stephen Thompson, who led all scorers, was instrumental in keeping Wisconsin close.
However, Westchester responded with a pivotal 11-2 surge midway through the period. The run was fueled by guard Manny Obaseki, who hit a 3-pointer and a driving layup, and center Trey Jemison, who provided consistent interior scoring and rebounding. This stretch pushed the Knicks’ lead to 11 points and forced Wisconsin into a chasing position for the remainder of the game. Westchester outscored Wisconsin 28-27 in the quarter to carry a 78-69 advantage into the final frame.
The Knicks’ offense operated with uncommon efficiency, scoring at least 25 points in every quarter. Their balance was evident as six players scored in double figures, led by Obaseki’s all-around playmaking and Jemison’s dominance in the paint. Guard Bryson Warren and forward Dink Pate provided crucial perimeter scoring, while Nick Jourdain and Toby Okani contributed key baskets and defensive plays.
Wisconsin, which fell to 9-17, was led by Thompson’s scoring barrage. Veteran guard Victor Oladipo, on assignment from the NBA’s Milwaukee Bucks, added defensive pressure with multiple steals but struggled with his shooting touch. The Herd could not sustain enough offensive consistency, particularly in a second quarter where they were held to 18 points, to overcome Westchester’s persistent attack.
Every time Wisconsin threatened in the fourth quarter, cutting the lead to single digits, Westchester answered. Pate and Warren hit timely shots to blunt Herd rallies, and the Knicks’ defense came up with critical stops and forced turnovers in the final minutes to secure the rare double-digit road win.
The two teams will meet again at Oshkosh Arena on Monday night. Westchester will look to build its first winning streak of the season, while Wisconsin aims to level the weekend series.
