Osceola vs. Memphis
SOUTHAVEN, Miss. (Interstat) — In a high-octane G League shootout that defied pregame projections, the Memphis Hustle outlasted the Osceola Magic 132-121 on Thursday night at DeSoto Civic Center.
The game, characterized by relentless offense and momentum swings, was ultimately decided by a dominant second-quarter performance from the Hustle. After a tightly contested first quarter that ended with Memphis leading 29-25, the home team erupted for 44 points in the second period. That surge, powered by a balanced attack and critical plays from its deep roster, opened a 73-64 halftime lead that Osceola would spend the rest of the night trying to overcome.
The Magic, who entered the game with an 8-3 record and were heavy favorites according to statistical models, found themselves in an unfamiliar chase position. They had mounted a significant comeback in the final minutes of the first half, cutting into what was once a larger deficit, but could never fully recover from the Hustle’s explosive quarter. Every Osceola push in the second half was met with a timely response from Memphis.
Osceola’s effort was led by a persistent offensive effort, scoring 34 points in the fourth quarter alone. Key contributions came from Lester Quinones, who consistently attacked the basket and drew fouls, and Alex Morales, who provided energy and scoring off the bench. Orlando Robinson anchored the interior at both ends. However, the Magic struggled to string together defensive stops against a determined Hustle squad that saw nine different players log significant minutes and contribute to the scoring.
Memphis, which improved to 5-7, showcased its depth. The Hustle’s second-quarter run was a collective effort, featuring three-pointers from Charlie Brown and Nate Hinton, interior finishes from GG Jackson and Olivier-Maxence Prosper, and playmaking from Jahmai Mashack. This depth proved vital in maintaining the lead as the game wore on. Prosper was particularly impactful, contributing on both ends with steals, rebounds, and efficient scoring, while Jackson provided a consistent scoring punch.
The most important phase of the game was undoubtedly the final three minutes of the second quarter. After Osceola had closed the gap to just four points, Memphis finished the half on a 14-5 run. This stretch included a technical free throw by Prosper, a three-pointer from Mashack, and a driving layup by Jackson at the buzzer. That sequence took the momentum squarely back to the Hustle and re-established a multi-possession cushion heading into the break, a psychological and tactical advantage they would not relinquish.
Despite the loss, Osceola’s record stands at a respectable 8-4. Memphis, meanwhile, secured a much-needed victory to build momentum. The two teams are scheduled to meet again in a rematch in Osceola on Sunday.
