Asteras Tripolis vs Volos NFC

Preview: Asteras Tripolis Hosts Volos NFC in Super League 1 Clash

TRIPOLIS, Greece (Interstat) — Two sides seeking to reverse recent slides will meet Saturday when Asteras Tripolis hosts Volos NFC in a Greek Super League 1 match.

The contest at the Theodoros Kolokotronis Stadium pits a home team favored by analytics against a visiting side that won the season’s earlier encounter.

Asteras Tripolis (0-2-1 in its last three matches) is coming off a difficult week, suffering a 3-0 home loss to league powerhouse Olympiakos on Wednesday. That followed a 3-1 defeat at APO Levadeiakos last Sunday. The club has managed just one win in its last 10 domestic outings.

Despite the poor form, statistical models give Asteras an edge. Interstat’s ELO system projects Asteras Tripolis with a 57.60% probability to win Saturday’s match. However, its game simulator predicts a 1-1 draw.

Volos NFC (0-3-0 in its last three) arrives in a similarly poor run of league results, having been outscored 7-0 in consecutive losses to Atromitos, Olympiakos and, most recently, a 2-0 defeat to AE Larisa on Jan. 31. Its last victory came in a friendly against Mexican side Puebla on Dec. 20.

The visitors will draw confidence from the head-to-head record, having beaten Asteras Tripolis 2-1 in September. Volos striker effectiveness in that match could be key again as both defenses have shown vulnerability.

Asteras will look to its home pitch for an advantage, though its last home match resulted in the heavy loss to Olympiakos. Volos has struggled on the road, with its last away win in any competition coming on Nov. 29.

The match is critical for mid-table positioning, with both teams desperate for points to stabilize their campaigns. Following Saturday’s game, Asteras Tripolis will prepare for a trip to face Puebla in a friendly on Feb. 14, while Volos NFC hosts AS Aris Thessalonikis in league play the same day.

Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. local time (1700 GMT).
