MANTA, Ecuador (Interstat) — Delfin opened its Liga Pro season with a 2-0 victory over CD Cuenca on Friday at Estadio Jocay. The result defied a pregame projection from Interstat, which had forecast a 1-1 draw.

Midfielder Brian Cuello broke the stalemate in the 63rd minute, scoring the opening goal before assisting on Édison Vega’s strike in the 76th minute. The match was marred by discipline, including a red card shown to CD Cuenca’s Jorge Ordoñez in first-half stoppage time. Delfin’s Osmar Fernández also was sent off in the 73rd minute. Delfin begins the campaign with a win, while CD Cuenca starts with a loss.
