Toulouse vs Nice

TOULOUSE, France (Interstat) — In a match that defied both its own lively narrative and pregame projections, Toulouse and Nice played to a 0-0 draw Sunday in a French Ligue 1 contest at Stadium de Toulouse.

The result, which opened the league’s 2026 schedule for both clubs, stood in stark contrast to a game that featured two goals, both subsequently disallowed after video review, and a flurry of second-half activity. The stalemate left each team with a single point from the encounter.

Interstat’s pregame metrics had given Toulouse a 54.6 percent probability to win and projected a 1-1 final score, but even that forecast of goals proved inaccurate on a day where the scoreboard ultimately remained blank.

The home side thought they had taken the lead in the 20th minute. Midfielder Branco van den Boomen, the 6-foot-2 Dutchman who orchestrated much of Toulouse’s play, delivered a searching ball into the area. Striker Thijs Dallinga, another Netherlands native, finished the chance, triggering celebrations. However, after a lengthy consultation with the video assistant referee, the goal was chalked off for an offside violation against Dallinga, nullifying van den Boomen’s would-be assist.

Nice, which entered the match with a league record of seven wins, 14 losses and eight draws, nearly stole all three points late. Substitute Billal Brahimi, on the pitch for just eight minutes, created a seeming breakthrough in the 78th minute. His pass found fellow substitute Aaron Ramsey, and the Welsh midfielder slotted home. For the second time, however, the on-field decision was overturned by VAR, this time for a handball in the buildup, disallowing Ramsey’s effort and Brahimi’s assist.

The visitors finished the match with ten men after two quick yellow cards to midfielder Pablo Rosario in the 63rd minute and defender Dante in the 65th minute reduced their ranks. Despite the numerical disadvantage, Nice’s defense held firm to secure the clean sheet.

The draw continues a recent trend in the fixture, albeit in an unusual fashion. Toulouse had won the previous two meetings, including a 5-1 victory over Nice in January. This result leaves Toulouse with a league record of 11 wins, 11 losses and seven draws, while Nice’s difficult season continues as they seek consistency.

Toulouse faces a quick turnaround with a match against Cavigal Nice U19 later Sunday in different competition, followed by a return to Ligue 1 play at RC Strasbourg Alsace on May 3. Nice’s next outing is a league match at Marseille on April 26.
