Bethune-Cookman at Jackson State

JACKSON, Miss. (Interstat) — A surging Jackson State team looks to continue its push for a conference title when it hosts a streaky Bethune-Cookman squad on Saturday at Mississippi Veterans Memorial Stadium.

The Tigers (7-2) enter the contest riding high after a dominant 42-3 road victory over Mississippi Valley State last Saturday. Quarterback Jared Lockhart was efficient, completing 21 of 27 passes for 241 yards and two touchdowns, while the ground game, led by Ahmad Miller’s 87 yards, provided balance.

Jackson State’s potent offense, which has scored at least 38 points in five of its last six games, will be a significant challenge for a Bethune-Cookman defense. The Tigers’ only loss in that stretch was a narrow 26-24 defeat at Grambling.

The Wildcats (5-5) are looking to rebound and secure bowl eligibility after a 31-23 loss at Grambling last week. Despite the defeat, quarterback Timmy McClain turned in a strong performance, throwing for 224 yards and a touchdown while adding another score on the ground. The Wildcats have shown flashes, winning three of their last five, but have struggled against the upper echelon of the conference.

According to Interstat’s game simulator, Jackson State is a heavy favorite, projected to win 40-28. The game will be a test of Bethune-Cookman’s ability to contain a high-powered Tigers attack on the road.
