Washington Huskies Dominate Purdue Boilermakers in Lopsided Victory

SEATTLE (Interstat) — In a commanding display of offensive firepower and defensive dominance, the Washington Huskies overwhelmed the Purdue Boilermakers 49 to 13 on Saturday night at a rain-soaked Husky Stadium.

The game, played before a home crowd of 68,161, was effectively decided by halftime as Washington unleashed a 21-point second quarter to build an insurmountable lead. The Huskies improved their season record to 7-3, while the Boilermakers fell to a disappointing 2-9.

Washington quarterback Demond Williams Jr., a 5-foot-11, 187-pound sophomore from Chandler, Arizona, was the catalyst for the offensive explosion. He orchestrated the Huskies’ attack with surgical precision, completing 16 of 19 passes for 257 yards and two touchdowns, while also adding 23 yards on seven rushing attempts. His efficiency and command of the offense kept the Purdue defense off-balance throughout the first three quarters.

The Huskies set the tone early, marching 95 yards on their second possession in a drive that consumed over 11 minutes of the first quarter. The marathon series was capped by a 1-yard touchdown plunge from running back Adam Mohammed, giving Washington a 7-0 lead.

The floodgates opened in the second quarter. Mohammed found the end zone again from a yard out to complete another sustained drive, pushing the lead to 14-0. On the ensuing possession, Purdue quarterback Ryan Browne, in relief of starter Malachi Singleton, was intercepted by Washington linebacker Zaydrius Rainey-Sale at the Purdue 43-yard line. The very next play showcased the Huskies’ big-play ability as running back Jordan Washington, a 5-foot-11, 161-pound speedster from Long Beach, California, took a handoff and exploded through the right side for a 68-yard touchdown run, extending the lead to 21-0.

Washington was not finished. Just before the half, Williams Jr. engineered a two-minute drill, culminating in Mohammed’s third rushing touchdown of the game, this time from 5 yards out with 55 seconds remaining. The score sent the Huskies into the locker room with a commanding 28-0 advantage.

Mohammed finished with a team-high 59 rushing yards on 17 carries to go along with his three scores, and also caught a 27-yard pass. Jordan Washington, despite only five carries, amassed a game-high 108 rushing yards, powered largely by his long touchdown run.

The Huskies’ offense continued its onslaught in the third quarter. Williams Jr. connected with receiver Audric Harris on a 61-yard touchdown strike down the middle of the field, making the score 35-0. Later in the quarter, Williams Jr. capped his night with a 2-yard touchdown pass to Dezmen Roebuck, widening the gap to 42-0.

Purdue finally got on the board late in the third quarter with a 41-yard field goal from Spencer Porath. The Boilermakers added a second Porath field goal, this time from 53 yards, early in the fourth quarter and found the end zone with 7:11 remaining in the game on a 9-yard pass from Singleton to EJ Horton Jr.

Singleton, Purdue’s primary quarterback, finished 16 of 28 for 150 yards, one touchdown, and added 22 yards on the ground. The Boilermakers’ offense struggled to sustain drives against a relentless Washington defense, managing just 263 total yards.

Washington’s defense was suffocating, led by linebackers Deven Bryant and Xe’ree Alexander, who each recorded eight tackles. The Huskies’ defensive front also applied consistent pressure, registering three sacks from Anterio Thompson, Zach Durfee, and Deshawn Lynch.

Backup quarterback Kai Horton took over for Washington in the fourth quarter and guided the Huskies to their final score, a 2-yard touchdown run by himself with 1:54 left to seal the 49-13 victory.

The Huskies amassed 553 total yards of offense, with a balanced attack of 257 through the air and 296 on the ground. Receiver Decker DeGraaf was Williams Jr.’s top target, hauling in five catches for 91 yards.

Purdue’s defense was led by linebacker Mani Powell, who registered nine tackles and a sack, and safety Tahj Ra-El, who made seven tackles.

The loss extends a difficult season for Purdue, which has now lost nine of its last ten games after a 2-0 start. Washington, meanwhile, continues its push in the Big Ten conference standings, bouncing back decisively from a narrow road loss to Wisconsin the previous week.

Purdue will conclude its season at home against Indiana on Friday, Nov. 28. Washington travels to face UCLA on Saturday, Nov. 22, before returning home for a highly anticipated matchup with Oregon on Nov. 29.
