Georgia Routs Texas Behind Stockton’s Four Touchdowns
ATHENS, Ga. (Interstat) — In a commanding display of power and precision, the Georgia Bulldogs methodically dismantled the Texas Longhorns 35-10 on Saturday night before a raucous crowd of 93,033 at Sanford Stadium.
The game, a tightly contested defensive struggle for three quarters, erupted in the final period as Georgia unleashed a 21-point barrage to turn a competitive matchup into a decisive victory. The Bulldogs improved their season record to nine wins and one loss, while Texas fell to seven wins and three losses.
Georgia quarterback Gunner Stockton was the catalyst for the offensive explosion, delivering a masterful performance. The Tiger, Georgia, native was ruthlessly efficient, completing 24 of 29 passes for 229 yards and four touchdowns. He also added 29 yards on the ground, including a 4-yard scoring run in the fourth quarter that served as the exclamation point on the victory.
Texas, led by quarterback Arch Manning, started the game with promise. Manning engineered a 15-play, 74-yard opening drive that consumed over six minutes of clock, culminating in a 33-yard field goal from Michael Shipley to give the Longhorns an early 3-0 lead.
Georgia responded in kind. Stockton led the Bulldogs on a 10-play, 77-yard touchdown drive, capping it with a 17-yard strike to Noah Thomas to take a 7-3 lead with 4:12 remaining in the first quarter. The score remained there until the second quarter when Stockton and Thomas connected again, this time from 4 yards out, to extend the Bulldogs’ lead to 14-3.
The Longhorns’ defense provided a spark in the third quarter when linebacker Anthony Hill Jr. intercepted a Stockton pass, giving Texas the ball at the Georgia 36-yard line. Manning capitalized on the short field, eventually finding Ryan Wingo for a 7-yard touchdown pass to cut the deficit to 14-10 and inject life into the visiting sideline.
That hope was short-lived. The fourth quarter belonged entirely to Georgia. The Bulldogs needed just three plays to answer, with Stockton firing a 30-yard touchdown pass to London Humphreys to push the lead back to 21-10.
After forcing a quick Texas punt, Georgia embarked on another methodical drive, this one ending with a 6-yard touchdown pass from Stockton to tight end Lawson Luckie. The Bulldogs’ defense then forced another stop, and the offense put the game completely out of reach with Stockton’s 4-yard touchdown run, making it 35-10 with 4:43 left to play.
Manning finished the game with 251 yards and one touchdown on 27-of-43 passing, but was sacked three times and under constant pressure from a relentless Georgia pass rush. Wingo was his primary target, hauling in nine catches for 62 yards and the lone Texas touchdown.
While Stockton’s offensive performance headlined the game, Georgia’s defense was equally dominant. The unit, led by linebacker Chris Cole’s seven tackles and a sack from Zayden Walker, held the Longhorns in check for most of the evening. Defensive back KJ Bolden made a critical interception in the second quarter in the end zone to halt a promising Texas drive, preserving Georgia’s lead at the time.
The Bulldogs’ receiving corps showcased its depth, with Zachariah Branch catching six passes for 41 yards and adding 93 combined return yards. Humphreys’ 55 receiving yards on just two catches both proved to be explosive plays, including the back-breaking touchdown.
For Texas, linebacker Ty’Anthony Smith was a bright spot on defense, recording a game-high nine tackles and a sack.
The victory sets up Georgia for a favorable close to the regular season, with a home game against Charlotte next Saturday before the traditional rivalry matchup at Georgia Tech. Texas, meanwhile, will look to rebound at home against Arkansas before hosting Texas A&M. The lopsided result defied the pregame projections, which had Texas as a 4.5-point favorite and anticipated a much closer contest.
