Jackson State at Florida A&M

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Interstat) — A surging Jackson State team looks to rebound from its first conference loss when it visits a resurgent Florida A&M in a key SWAC matchup on Saturday.

The Tigers (5-2) saw a five-game winning streak snapped last Saturday in a 26-24 road loss to Grambling. Jackson State’s offense, which had been prolific during its streak, was held in check, though quarterbacks Jared Lockhart, JaCobian Morgan and Parker Stofa all contributed.

They will face a Rattlers (3-4) squad that has found its footing, winning two straight. Florida A&M is coming off a 43-35 victory over Southern, powered by a strong offensive performance. Quarterback RJ Johnson III threw for 287 yards and a touchdown, while running back Jamal Hailey rushed for 157 yards and three scores.

Jackson State, with the more potent record, will be tested on the road at Bragg Memorial Stadium. The Tigers’ offense, which put up 57 points in a win over Alabama A&M earlier this month, will need to rediscover its high-scoring form against a Rattlers defense that has allowed an average of 35 points in its last two outings.

According to Interstat’s game simulator, Jackson State is projected to edge out a 35-29 victory. The game could hinge on which team’s offense can maintain its recent momentum in a contest featuring two of the conference’s most dynamic backfields.
