BATON ROUGE, La. (Interstat) — Prairie View capitalized on a 17-point second quarter to defeat Southern 24-3 on Saturday at Tiger Stadium, defying pregame projections that heavily favored the Jaguars.

Quarterback Cameron Peters led the Panthers, completing 19 of 31 passes for 224 yards and a touchdown. Running back Lamagea McDowell rushed for two scores, including a 15-yard dash in the second quarter. The Panthers’ defense was stifling, holding Southern to a single Nathan Zimmer 36-yard field goal in the third quarter. Southern’s offense, led by quarterback Ashton Strother, was hampered by an interception from Prairie View’s Kamren Amao.

The victory improves Prairie View to 4-2 on the season, while Southern falls to 1-5.
