Southern at Bethune-Cookman

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Interstat) — Two teams looking to reverse their fortunes will meet Saturday when Bethune-Cookman hosts Southern in a non-conference matchup at Daytona Stadium.

The Wildcats (2-4) are coming off a 52-35 road loss to Alabama State in which quarterback Timmy McClain threw for 266 yards and two touchdowns and ran for two more scores. The defeat snapped a two-game winning streak for Bethune-Cookman, which had previously beaten Edward Waters and Alabama A&M.

Southern (1-4) seeks to end a three-game skid after a 38-13 home loss to Jackson State on Sept. 27. The Jaguars’ lone victory this season was a 34-29 win over Mississippi Valley State on Aug. 30. Running back Trey Holly provided a bright spot in the loss to Jackson State, rushing for 147 yards and a touchdown.

A high-scoring affair is projected, with Interstat’s game simulator forecasting a 40-33 victory for the Wildcats. Both defenses will be tested as each team aims to build momentum heading into the heart of its conference schedule.
