Mercyhurst at Wagner

NEW YORK (Interstat) — Two teams looking to build on rare positive results will meet Saturday when the Mercyhurst Lakers visit the Wagner Seahawks.

The non-conference game at Wagner College Stadium pits Mercyhurst (2-4), coming off a 22-13 win over Long Island University, against Wagner (1-4), which last played on Sept. 27 and earned an 18-13 victory over Norfolk State.

Mercyhurst quarterback Adam Urena was efficient in the win, completing 24 of 31 passes for 191 yards and a touchdown. The Lakers’ ground game was potent, with Brian Trobel rushing for 67 yards and a score on just seven carries and Jameir Gamble adding 35 yards and a touchdown.

Wagner’s offense in its lone win was led by quarterback Jordan Barton, who threw for 183 yards and two touchdowns while also rushing for a team-high 53 yards.

Both teams have struggled against FCS competition this season, with the Lakers’ two wins coming against LIU and New Haven. Wagner’s victory over Norfolk State stands as its only win, with losses to Georgetown, Marist and FBS programs Kansas and Central Michigan.

Interstat’s game simulator projects a high-scoring affair, favoring Mercyhurst 40-29.

Following this game, Mercyhurst will host Duquesne on Oct. 18, while Wagner is set to host Central Connecticut on the same date.
