Virginia Military Institute at East Tennessee State
JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Interstat) — Two teams looking to halt losing streaks will meet Saturday when the Virginia Military Institute Keydets visit the East Tennessee State Buccaneers at William B. Greene Jr. Stadium.
VMI (1-4) enters on a three-game skid following a 21-14 home loss to Chattanooga last Saturday. The Keydets’ offense has struggled during the losing streak, averaging just 18.6 points per game after a 42-point outburst in their lone win over Ferrum on Sept. 6. Quarterbacks Collin Shannon, Nana Utsey and Cade Cox all saw action in the most recent loss.
East Tennessee State (2-4) has also lost its last two contests, including a 31-22 road defeat against Furman. The Buccaneers’ offense has shown flashes, led by quarterback Jacolby Criswell, who passed for 100 yards and rushed for 73 in the loss.
Both teams have faced challenging early-season schedules. The Keydets opened with a lopsided loss at Navy, while the Buccaneers were routed at Tennessee in Week 2.
According to Interstat’s game simulator, East Tennessee State is projected to win 31-19. The Buccaneers will look to capitalize on their home-field advantage as both programs seek to build momentum heading into the heart of their Southern Conference schedules.
