Norfolk State at Hampton

HAMPTON, Va. (Interstat) — Two teams seeking to reverse early-season struggles will meet Saturday when Hampton hosts Norfolk State in a non-conference matchup at Armstrong Stadium.

Both the Pirates and Spartans enter with identical 1-4 records. Hampton is looking to rebound from a 41-20 road loss to Elon last Saturday, while Norfolk State fell 18-13 at Wagner.

The Spartans’ offense has shown flashes, led by quarterback Otto Kuhns, who threw for 119 yards and rushed for 25 more in the loss to Wagner. Running back Kevon King added 48 rushing yards and a touchdown.

Hampton’s attack is paced by quarterback Braden Davis, who passed for 194 yards and a touchdown and rushed for 26 yards against Elon.

Despite the similar records, Interstat’s game simulator projects a high-scoring affair favoring the home team, predicting a 39-27 victory for Hampton.

The matchup is the first of a two-game homestand for the Pirates, who will host Campbell on Oct. 11. Norfolk State continues its road schedule the same day with a game at Wofford.
