Baylor at Oklahoma State
STILLWATER, Okla. (Interstat) — In a stunning reversal of pregame expectations, the Baylor Bears delivered a dominant performance to defeat the Oklahoma State Cowboys 45 to 27 on Saturday at Boone Pickens Stadium.
Entering the game as a three-touchdown underdog according to oddsmakers, Baylor’s offense was nearly unstoppable, building a commanding 28-7 lead by halftime and cruising to a victory that defied both the point spread and the projection from Interstat’s game simulator, which had forecast an Oklahoma State win.
Baylor quarterback Sawyer Robertson was the catalyst for the upset, dissecting the Cowboys’ defense with precision. The junior from Lubbock, Texas, completed 24 of 35 passes for 393 yards and four touchdowns, connecting with Kole Wilson for a 34-yard score in the first quarter and finding Matthew Klopfenstein from 6 yards out in the second.
The Bears’ offensive explosion continued after halftime. On the first play from scrimmage in the third quarter, Robertson hit Kobe Prentice for a 73-yard touchdown strike, extending the lead and silencing the home crowd. Robertson later added a 2-yard rushing touchdown in the fourth quarter to seal the game.
Oklahoma State’s offense, conversely, struggled to find consistency. Quarterback Zane Flores of Gretna, Nebraska, completed 23 of 41 passes for 232 yards but was unable to lead a sustained comeback. The Cowboys utilized a two-quarterback system, with Sam Jackson V of Naperville, Illinois, also taking snaps and throwing a 26-yard touchdown pass to Josh Ford in the first quarter.
The Cowboys managed two field goals from Logan Ward in the second quarter and a 1-yard touchdown run from Trent Howland in the third, but could not keep pace with the Bears’ scoring tempo.
Defensively, Baylor’s pressure was a constant factor, with Kyland Reed recording six tackles and a quarterback hurry. For Oklahoma State, linebacker Bryan McCoy Jr. led all defenders with eight tackles, while Taje McCoy registered the team’s sole sack.
The win elevates Baylor’s season record to 2-2, providing a significant boost after a narrow loss to Arizona State the previous week. Oklahoma State falls to 1-3 on the season, having now lost two consecutive games.
Baylor will look to build on this momentum when it hosts Kansas State next Saturday. Oklahoma State will hit the road to face Arizona, also on Saturday.
The total points scored, 72, surpassed the over/under line of 58.5.
