LSU at Ole Miss
OXFORD, Miss. (Interstat) — A critical early-season SEC West battle is set for Saturday afternoon at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium as the Ole Miss Rebels host the LSU Tigers.
Both teams enter the contest with perfect 4-0 records, but their paths have differed. LSU (4-0, 1-0 SEC) has relied on a stifling defense, allowing an average of just 11.5 points per game in wins over Clemson, Louisiana Tech, Florida and Southeastern Louisiana. The Tigers’ offense, led by quarterback Garrett Nussmeier, is coming off a 56-10 rout of Southeastern Louisiana where Nussmeier threw for 273 yards and three touchdowns.
Ole Miss (4-0, 1-0 SEC) boasts a high-powered offense that has averaged over 44 points per game. Quarterback Trinidad Chambliss is a dual-threat, coming off a performance against Tulane where he passed for 307 yards and rushed for 112 yards. The Rebels’ defense, however, was tested in a 41-35 shootout win over Arkansas.
Despite LSU’s dominant defense, Interstat’s game simulator projects a narrow 24-23 victory for Ole Miss. Betting markets reflect the anticipated closeness, installing LSU as a slight 1.5-point favorite with an over/under of 56.5.
The game is a pivotal point in both teams’ schedules. LSU faces a gauntlet after this, with a trip to Alabama looming on Nov. 8. Ole Miss’s path remains equally treacherous, with consecutive road games at Georgia and Oklahoma following this contest.
Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. CDT on Saturday.
