Miami (FL) vs. Boston College
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (Interstat) — Lazaro Collera pitched five innings of no-hit baseball and Fabio Peralta homered as part of a four-run second inning, leading Miami (Fla.) to an 8-2 victory over Boston College on Thursday at Bank of America Stadium.
The Hurricanes improved to 38-17 overall and 20-10 in Atlantic Coast Conference play, while the Eagles fell to 36-21 and 16-14.
Collera, who had allowed four earned runs in each of his previous two starts, retired the first three Boston College batters before surrendering two runs in the bottom of the first. After a walk and a throwing error on a failed pickoff attempt, Vince Toomey drove in the first run with a single and Max Wolff followed with an RBI double.
But Collera settled in from there. He did not allow another hit, striking out four over five innings while walking two. The outing marked a sharp rebound from his last appearance May 15 at Florida State, when he gave up four earned runs in 2 2/3 innings, and from May 8 against Louisville, when he allowed four runs in six innings.
Miami answered immediately in the top of the second. After a single by Dubovik and a wild pitch, Dorian Milano singled and Sheahan grounded out to bring home the first run. Peralta then launched a two-run homer to left field, scoring Milano and tying the game at 2-2. The Hurricanes added a third run in the inning on a wild pitch that scored Ogden from third.
Alex Sosa extended the lead in the fourth inning with a two-run home run to left-center, scoring Williams to make it 6-2.
Miami tacked on two more runs in the seventh and eighth innings. In the seventh, Milano doubled down the right-field line to score Dubovik. In the eighth, Dubovik drove in a run on a fielder’s choice.
The Hurricanes finished with 15 hits, while Boston College managed five. Miami used six pitchers, with Collera earning the win. Fabio Peralta went 3 for 5 with a home run and two RBIs, playing both center field and left field. Lyndon Glidewell, Jack Durso, Nick Robert and Packy Bradley-Cooney each threw a scoreless inning of relief, combining for four innings with four strikeouts.
Boston College’s pitching staff featured Kyle Kipp, John Kwiatkowski, Chase Hartsell and others. Kipp allowed one earned run over 1 2/3 innings. Kwiatkowski recorded one strikeout in one-third of an inning.
The most critical sequence occurred in the top of the second, when Miami erased an early two-run deficit and seized control of the game. Peralta’s homer turned a 2-1 hole into a 3-2 lead, and the Hurricanes never trailed again.
The game was played at a neutral site, Bank of America Stadium, as part of the Atlantic Coast Conference schedule.
Interstat’s game simulator projected a final score of Miami 6, Boston College 4, and its ELO system gave Miami a 60.40 percent probability to win.
