Miami (FL) vs. Boston College

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (Interstat) — The seed Miami Hurricanes (37-17) face the seed Boston College Eagles (36-20) on Thursday, May 21, 2026, in the opening round of the ACC Baseball Championship at Truist Field.

Miami rides momentum from a dominant 11-2 victory over Stanford on Wednesday, a game in which catcher Alonzo Alvarez went 4 for 5 with two home runs and three RBIs. Alvarez has been volatile in May, producing three multi-hit games alongside four hitless performances over his last 10 contests. His power remains a threat; he homered twice with three RBIs in a 6-7 loss at Florida State on May 14.

Boston College counters with right-hander Gavin Soares, whose recent outings have been erratic. Soares threw 3 1/3 scoreless innings with six strikeouts in a 7-6 win at Notre Dame on April 26, but allowed three earned runs in 3 2/3 innings in a 3-4 loss at Clemson on May 3. In his most recent appearance — a 15-2 rout by Georgia Tech on May 16 — he surrendered one earned run over 1 1/3 innings.

The teams split a three-game series in Coral Gables, Fla., in early March. Boston College won the opener 8-7 in 11 innings, then Miami took Game 2 5-3. The Eagles won the rubber match 9-5 on March 8.

Miami enters on a two-game winning streak after its Stanford rout, following a 7-4 victory at Florida State on May 16. The Hurricanes have won four of their last seven, with Alvarez providing the offensive spark. Pitching has been steady: Rob Evans threw seven innings of two-run ball against Stanford, and Jake Dorn added 1 1/3 scoreless innings.

Boston College, meanwhile, limps into the tournament having lost four consecutive games. The Eagles were swept in a three-game series at home by Georgia Tech from May 14-16, scoring a combined three runs in three games. Their last win came May 10 against NJIT, 6-3.

The Eagles’ offensive production has been sparse. Designated hitter Kyle Wolff went 1 for 4 with two RBIs in the May 16 loss to Georgia Tech, but the lineup has struggled against quality pitching. The Eagles hit .368 in their three-game series win over Notre Dame in late April but have not reached double-digit runs since that series.

First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. Thursday. The winner advances to the second round of the double-elimination tournament.
