Hofstra broke the game open in the third inning. Tyler Castrataro doubled to lead off and scored on a fielder’s choice by Michael Craig. After Michael Brown reached on a fielder’s choice, Griggs reached on a two-base fielding error by Cougars second baseman Kyle Plyler that allowed Craig to score. Tyler Cox then singled to left field, driving in Brown and Griggs. Nick Biddle singled to right field, scoring Tony Melara and Cox to make it 5-0.
Cox stole second base before Biddle’s hit. All four runs in the inning were unearned after the error.

The Pride put the game away with a seven-run seventh inning. Craig singled and Brown doubled to put runners at second and third with no outs. Griggs then homered to right field, his ninth of the season, scoring Craig and Brown. Melara singled and later scored on a fielder’s choice by Biddle, who also drove in Joey Gallello on a throwing error by Cougars shortstop Cole Tippett. Castrataro singled, and Craig added an RBI single to plate Biddle.

Cougars starter Carter Harrington took the loss. He allowed five hits and one earned run over three innings, striking out one. Drew Medley surrendered four earned runs on four hits in three innings. Jack Frail pitched the seventh.
The game was a stark contrast to the teams’ last meeting. College of Charleston took two of three from Hofstra in a series March 6-8 in Hempstead, New York. The Cougars won 5-4 and 5-1 before Hofstra won 8-3. In the regular season, Hofstra was swept at home by Northeastern and lost a series at Stony Brook, while the Cougars took a series at William & Mary and swept Elon on the road.
Interstat’s game simulator had projected a final score of College of Charleston 7, Hofstra 5, and its ELO system gave the Cougars a 74.00 percent probability to win.
