Montgomery dominates as Michigan routs Rutgers 10‑0
OMAHA, Neb. (Interstat) — Cade Montgomery pitched seven innings of one-hit ball with six strikeouts as Michigan defeated Rutgers 10-0 on Tuesday in a Big Ten game at Sapp Fieldhouse.
The Wolverines improved to 33-22 while the Scarlet Knights fell to 26-29. Montgomery allowed no earned runs and walked none, retiring 21 of 22 batters faced.
Michigan pounded out 12 hits. Brayden Jefferis homered in the first inning, Colby Turner drove in three runs on two hits and Evan Haeger and Noah Miller each homered in a seven-run seventh. Dane Morrow added three hits and Drew Culbertson had two RBIs.
Rutgers managed only one hit, a single by an unidentified batter. Starter Vincent Borghese allowed four runs in 5 2/3 innings without a hit, but issued walks and was charged with four earned runs. Henry Radbill gave up two runs in one-third of an inning.
Michigan scored single runs in the first and third innings, then added two in the fourth before exploding for six in the seventh. The Wolverines’ 10-0 victory avenged a loss to Rutgers earlier this season.
