Baylor edges Texas Tech 10‑9 in doubleheader opener
WACO, Texas (Interstat) — Baylor outlasted Texas Tech 10-9 in the first game of a Big 12 doubleheader Saturday at Baylor Ballpark. The Bears, now 25-21, used a four-run seventh inning to erase a 9-6 deficit and held off a late Red Raiders rally.
Tyce Armstrong led Baylor with three hits, including a home run and a double, driving in four runs. Zack Wallace earned the win after allowing two earned runs over six innings with three strikeouts. Travis Sanders added three hits and an RBI for the Bears.
Texas Tech, which fell to 22-24, got a monster game from Connor Shouse. The left fielder and third baseman went 4 for 5 with two home runs and five RBIs, but the Red Raiders’ comeback fell short. Linkin Garcia had two hits and an RBI. Texas Tech stranded the tying run in scoring position in the ninth.
Baylor scored two runs in the first on Armstrong’s RBI double, then added single runs in the second, third and fifth. After Shouse’s two-run single tied it at 6 in the sixth, Baylor answered with a run in the bottom half before breaking it open in the seventh. Texas Tech scored three in the eighth and two in the ninth but could not complete the rally.
