Rodriguez walk-off grand slam lifts Towson past UMBC

TOWSON, Md. (Interstat) — Keldrin Rodriguez hit a walk-off grand slam in the bottom of the ninth inning to give Towson a 9-8 victory over Maryland-Baltimore County on Tuesday afternoon at John B. Schuerholz Baseball Complex.

Rodriguez homered twice, also connecting for a three-run shot in the first inning, and finished with seven RBI. Brady Nathison tripled and scored in the second inning and added a solo homer in the seventh for the Tigers, who improved to 20-30.

UMBC took an early lead when a fielding error allowed two runs to score in the first inning. The Retrievers added four unearned runs in the fourth, including Nico Ong’s three-run homer, and led 8-4. But Towson chipped away, and Rodriguez’s blast in the ninth capped the comeback.

Aidan Boice started for UMBC and Grant Teschendorf took the loss. The Retrievers, who had 10 hits, fell to 23-22. Aden Knowles earned the win for Towson, which collected 11 hits. The teams had split their earlier meeting this season, with UMBC winning in 11 innings April 21.
