Towson at Hofstra
SOUTH HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. (Interstat) – The Hofstra Pride host the Towson Tigers on Friday evening at University Field in a Colonial Athletic Association matchup that carries postseason implications for both struggling clubs.
Hofstra (15-22) enters the 6 p.m. contest after a 12-10 loss to Saint John’s on Tuesday. Second baseman George Holt drove in four runs on two hits, while reliever Reno Spagnoli tossed 2 1/3 scoreless innings with two strikeouts. Spagnoli, a key piece out of the bullpen, has allowed one earned run over 3 1/3 innings in his last two appearances.
Towson (16-25) comes off a dominant 12-0 win over George Washington on Tuesday. Pitcher Vincent Salvo threw three shutout innings without allowing a hit. Salvo has been erratic this season – he struck out two over five scoreless innings against Coppin State on April 7 but surrendered three earned runs in 2 2/3 frames against Stony Brook on April 24.
The Tigers split a two-game set with Hofstra earlier this month, winning 8-6 on April 4 before falling 9-6 on April 3. Friday’s forecast calls for 55-degree temperatures and cloudy skies.
Towson has lost nine of its last 11, while Hofstra has dropped four of six. The Interstat game simulator projects a 4-2 Hofstra victory.
The series continues Saturday and Sunday at University Field.
