Tarleton State at Texas A&M
COLLEGE STATION, Texas (Interstat) — Tarleton State visits Texas A&M on Tuesday at Olsen Field at Blue Bell Park in a nonconference matchup that pits a surging Aggies squad against a Texans team fighting to stay above .500 in league play. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m. under a forecast of 85 degrees and rain.
Texas A&M (33-8) enters winners of five of its last six, including a series sweep at Florida over the weekend. The Aggies outscored the Gators 15-4 in the final two games after dropping the series opener. Right-hander Weston Moss, a key piece of the bullpen, tossed four scoreless innings Sunday, allowing just one unearned run with two strikeouts. In his last two appearances covering 8⅓ innings, Moss has surrendered one earned run on no hits while striking out seven. He is expected to see action Tuesday, though Texas A&M has not announced a starter.
Tarleton State (28-15) took two of three from Utah Valley at home last weekend, including a 13-9 win Sunday in which second baseman Slade McCloud went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs. McCloud has been hot of late, collecting hits in six of his last seven games and driving in 12 runs over that span. He homered and drove in five in a 10-9 win over Abilene Christian on April 11. The Texans have split their last 10 games, alternating wins and losses over the past week.
Offensively, Texas A&M ranks among the SEC leaders in runs per game, powered by catcher Bear Harrison, who homered and drove in a run Sunday. The Aggies have won 17 of their last 20 at home.
Both teams will be mindful of the forecast. Rain could affect pitching strategies, with each club likely leaning on its bullpen. Tarleton State’s Karsen Davis threw two shutout innings Sunday and could be an option in relief.
The Interstat game simulator projects a 7-6 Texas A&M victory, reflecting the Aggies’ depth and home-field advantage. But McCloud’s recent production and Tarleton’s ability to score (Interstat) — the Texans have reached double digits in six of their last 10 wins (Interstat) — suggest a competitive game.
Texas A&M opens a three-game SEC series against Auburn on Friday. Tarleton State visits Utah Tech for a three-game set beginning Thursday.
