FORT MYERS, Fla. (Interstat) — The Florida Gulf Coast Eagles host the West Georgia Wolves on Sunday afternoon in the finale of a three-game ASUN series at Swanson Stadium. First pitch is set for 4 p.m. under clear skies with temperatures near 90 degrees.

Florida Gulf Coast (32-17) has already clinched the series after winning the first two games. The Eagles defeated the Wolves 10-5 on Saturday and 7-6 on Friday. Jaret Nelson, a first baseman, powered Saturday’s victory with a home run and four RBIs, going 2-for-4. Over his last seven games, Nelson has recorded multiple hits six times, including two homers and six RBIs in three games at Stetson from May 1-3.

Nelson went 2-for-4 on Friday and is hitting .342 on the season. He has driven in at least one run in four of his past five contests.

West Georgia (13-37) is seeking its first win in the series after dropping the first two games. The Wolves lost a one-run game Friday before Saturday’s lopsided defeat. Right-hander Maverick Torres is a player to watch for the Wolves. Torres took the loss Saturday, allowing three earned runs in 3 1/3 innings while striking out three. He did not allow a hit but walked four.

Torres has struggled with command this season, posting a 6.21 ERA. In his previous start, he gave up six earned runs in 2 2/3 innings against Queens. He allowed three earned runs in 5 1/3 innings against Stetson on April 24.

The teams met earlier this season in Carrollton, Georgia, from April 2-4. West Georgia won two of three, taking the first two games 9-4 and 9-6 before Florida Gulf Coast won the finale 6-2.

Florida Gulf Coast has won four of its past five games overall. The Eagles are coming off a 9-8 victory at Florida International on Wednesday. Their pitching staff has been effective, with Chris Diaz striking out 10 in eight innings Saturday.

West Georgia has lost seven of its last eight. The Wolves’ most recent win came May 1 against Queens, a 14-9 decision at home. They have allowed at least 10 runs in five of their past six games.

According to Interstat’s game simulator, Florida Gulf Coast is projected to win 7-2.

Following Sunday’s game, Florida Gulf Coast travels to Jacksonville for a three-game series starting Thursday. West Georgia heads to North Florida for its next series, also beginning Thursday.
