Monmouth at Hofstra
SOUTH HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. (Interstat) — Colin Richter went four-for-four with a home run and three runs batted in as Monmouth defeated Hofstra 18-10 on Sunday, May 10, 2026 in a Colonial Athletic Association game at University Field.
Richter, who entered the game in a 0-for-11 slump over his previous four contests, sparked the Hawks’ offense with a double, a single and a solo homer in the seventh inning. He also drove in a run with an infield single in the fifth and executed a sacrifice bunt in the eighth.
The Hawks improved to 27-20 overall, while the Pride fell to 18-25.
Monmouth jumped to an 8-0 lead through four innings. After a scoreless first, the Hawks pushed two runs across in the second on a balk and an RBI double by Richter. Simmi Whitehill’s two-run homer and Aidan Bretschneider’s three-run blast in the third extended the lead to 7-0, and a double by Harry Hunt in the fourth scored Richter to make it 8-0.
Hofstra answered with a nine-run outburst in the bottom of the fourth. Tyler Cox hit a two-run homer, Daniel Escalante added a two-run single, and the Pride took advantage of a throwing error by Monmouth third baseman Whitehill to score six unearned runs in the inning. Castrataro’s two-run single capped the rally and gave Hofstra a 9-8 lead.
Monmouth immediately regained control in the top of the fifth. With runners on second and third and no outs, a fielding error on a Bretschneider sacrifice bunt loaded the bases. RJ Mustaro doubled to left center to drive in two runs, and Richter followed with an infield single that scored Bretschneider. A passed ball then allowed Mustaro to score, putting Monmouth ahead 12-9.
Hofstra cut the deficit to 12-10 in the sixth on an RBI single by Brown, but Richter’s solo homer in the seventh pushed the lead back to three. The Hawks added three runs in the eighth on RBI hits by Bruno and Mustaro and two more in the ninth on a double by Buecker and a sacrifice fly by Lovarco.
Mustaro finished with two hits and four RBIs. Bretschneider, who homered and drove in three runs, also walked twice. For Hofstra, Cox collected three hits including his homer, and Escalante had three hits and two RBIs.
Monmouth used six pitchers. Drew Yagodzinskie pitched a scoreless inning with two strikeouts, Kevin Opanel worked a clean inning, and David Horvath recorded one strikeout in one-third of an inning.
