Iona at Yale
WEST HAVEN, Conn. (Interstat) — Yale will look to build on a strong season when it hosts Iona on Wednesday at Yale Field.
The Bulldogs enter the 6 p.m. game with a 23-13 record across all competitions. The Gaels are 16-24.
The teams met March 25, with Yale winning 7-6 in 10 innings.
Yale’s Kaiden Dossa has been a consistent offensive threat. The center fielder is coming off a series at Columbia in which he went 6-for-11 with two home runs and seven RBIs over doubleheader games on April 26. In his past 11 games, Dossa has hits in 10 of them, including multiple RBIs in five of those contests.
Iona will likely turn to right-hander Sean Davis. The pitcher has allowed three earned runs or fewer in four of his past five starts. On May 3 against Canisius, he threw two scoreless innings with three strikeouts. He threw five shutout innings against Fairfield on April 26, striking out six.
The Bulldogs have won four of their past six games. They dropped a series at Columbia over the weekend, losing 8-9 and 4-6 in the doubleheader on April 26 before a 2-5 loss in the series finale. Yale also swept Cornell in a three-game set April 17-18, outscoring the Big Red 25-13.
The Gaels have lost five of their past seven. They dropped a series to Canisius, losing 7-1 on May 3, 3-1 in 11 innings on May 1 and 2-4 on May 2. Iona also lost to La Salle 8-0 on April 29.
The forecast calls for 69-degree temperatures with clouds.
Interstat’s game simulator projects a 7-4 Yale victory.
After Wednesday, Yale hosts Dartmouth on May 9-10. Iona visits Siena on May 8-10.
