Charleston Southern at College of Charleston

MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (Interstat) — The College of Charleston Cougars, fresh off a shutout victory, will look to continue their momentum when they host the Charleston Southern Buccaneers in a nonconference matchup Tuesday at CofC Baseball Stadium at Patriot’s Point.

First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. under clear skies with temperatures near 67 degrees.

The Cougars (19-20) evened their record in the Colonial Athletic Association with a 4-0 win at William & Mary on Sunday. Kaden Myers, a key arm out of the bullpen, started and threw five hitless innings with three strikeouts to earn the win. Carson Bryant followed with four perfect innings for the save. Myers has been effective in recent short relief but will look to build on his longest outing of the season.

Charleston Southern (22-16) is coming off a 4-3 win over High Point on Sunday, salvaging the final game of that series. The Buccaneers’ Matt Gallant delivered five scoreless innings in that victory. Over his last four appearances, which include two starts, Gallant has allowed two earned runs over 20.1 innings, highlighted by six hitless innings at USC Upstate on April 12.

The Cougars have won five of their last seven games. Offensively, they are led by catcher Dylan Johnson, who had two hits and an RBI in Sunday’s win.

Charleston Southern’s offense is powered by designated hitter Gavin Speirs, who hit a two-run homer in Sunday’s victory.

According to Interstat’s game simulator, the projected final score is College of Charleston 7, Charleston Southern 4.

This is the first of two scheduled meetings between the programs this season. They will meet again at Charleston Southern on Tuesday, May 5.

Following this game, the Cougars open a CAA series at home against Campbell on Friday. The Buccaneers travel to face UNC Asheville to begin a Big South Conference series on Friday.
