Lehigh at Lafayette
EASTON, Pa. (Interstat) — The Patriot League’s most-played rivalry resumes Saturday when Lafayette hosts Lehigh in a doubleheader opener at Kamine Stadium.
The first game of the twin bill, set for a 1:05 p.m. first pitch under cloudy skies and 70-degree temperatures, features two teams seeking momentum in a difficult season. The Leopards (8-26) took the series opener 4-2 on Friday night.
Saturday’s matchup projects as a pitcher’s duel, according to Interstat’s game simulator, which forecasts a 4-1 Lehigh victory. The focus will be on the mound, where both teams are expected to start right-handers coming off strong performances against each other just one day prior.
Lehigh (9-25) will look to senior Max Treonze, who was brilliant in a hard-luck loss Friday. He pitched eight hitless innings in relief, allowing two earned runs with seven strikeouts. Over his last five appearances spanning 19 innings, Treonze has surrendered just eight hits.
Lafayette will likely counter with sophomore Tristan Helmick, who earned Friday’s win with a dominant seven-inning start. He struck out 14 Mountain Hawks while allowing two earned runs on five hits. His season has been a mix of brilliance and struggle, including a six-inning, shutout effort against Bucknell on April 4.
Both lineups have struggled for consistency. Lehigh’s Robbie Carvelli, who had two hits Friday, will aim to spark the offense. Lafayette’s Brandon Doubek drove in two runs in the series opener.
The teams have split their last 10 meetings. Following Saturday’s doubleheader, the series concludes Sunday at 1:05 p.m.
