Carlon’s Gem Powers Sun Devils to Shutout Win Over Cougars
PROVO, Utah (Interstat) — Cole Carlon struck out 11 over six no-hit innings Friday, leading Arizona State to a 13-0, seven-inning victory over BYU in Big 12 play at Larry H. Miller Field.
The Sun Devils (27-13) erupted for 10 hits, avenging a 19-9 loss to the Cougars a day prior. Carlon dominated, walking none before Taylor Penn completed the combined one-hitter in the seventh. BYU (20-17) managed only three hits.
Arizona State broke open the game with a six-run second inning, highlighted by Brody Briggs’ two-run homer. Landon Hairston and Austen Roellig each drove in two runs. The Sun Devils capitalized on four wild pitches, scoring multiple times on passed balls.
The win defied a Interstat projection that favored Arizona State by a narrow 8-7 margin. The teams continue their series Saturday.
