Lafayette at Saint Peter`s

JERSEY CITY, N.J. (Interstat) — Two teams seeking to reverse lengthy midseason slides will meet Wednesday when the Lafayette Leopards visit the Saint Peter’s Peacocks for a non-conference baseball game at Joseph J. Jaroschak Field.

First pitch is scheduled for the evening. The forecast calls for cloudy skies and a temperature of 85 degrees at game time.

Lafayette (7-25) arrives having lost eight of its last nine games, including a 10-9 defeat at Navy on Sunday in which the Leopards squandered a late lead. Saint Peter’s (3-29) has dropped 10 of its last 11, coming off a 13-3 loss at Mount St. Mary’s.

A player to watch for the Leopards is right fielder Boden Fernsler, who is 8 for 23 (.348) over his last seven games. He went 2 for 5 with a home run and three RBIs in Sunday’s loss.

The Peacocks will look to infielder Chase Fogg, who is coming off a perfect 3-for-3 performance with a homer and two RBIs in Sunday’s contest. He has four hits in his last eight at-bats.

Both pitching staffs have struggled. Lafayette has allowed 10 or more runs in five of its last nine games, while Saint Peter’s has surrendered at least 13 runs in four of its last five outings.

According to Interstat’s game simulator, the projected final score is Lafayette 2, Saint Peter’s 1.

This is the first of two scheduled meetings between the programs this season. They are set to play again in Easton, Pennsylvania, on April 29.

Lafayette begins a four-game Patriot League series against Lehigh at home on Friday. Saint Peter’s opens a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference series against Iona at home on Friday.
